A high dependence on illegal drugs and legal highs can be symptomatic of a chaotic lifestyle but substance misuse is not a cause of domestic abuse.  An abusive individual may try to blame their behaviour on their substance misuse, but there is no excuse for domestic abuse.

In some cases, victims are made to take drugs to a level where they develop a dependency because this means the abuser can gain further control.

Local services are available to support and offer treatment to anyone wishing to overcome their dependency, and support for friends and family of a person living with drug abuse.
