Domestic abuse can happen to anyone of any age, from any background and of any sexual orientation. Domestic abuse or domestic violence are terms used to describe abuse that takes place within a family setting or intimate relationship to anyone over the age of 16. Abuse suffered by someone under 16 is child abuse. You might not see the behaviour you are experiencing as abuse and probably won't call it that.
Domestic abuse is about control. Someone who seeks to control another will get to know how that person responds to various behaviours in order to achieve control over them.
